Overview

Sigma is one of the central protagonists in Fate/strange Fake. Operating as a spellcaster mercenary, he is hired by Francesca to participate in the False Holy Grail War held in Snowfield. Instead of the intended Servant, he unexpectedly summons the Extra-class Servant Watcher. The identifier "Sigma" serves as a tactical unit designation rather than a personal name. Lacking any personal ambition or wish for the Holy Grail, he enters the conflict as a detached former child soldier who gradually becomes a pivotal figure in the war.

Appearance

Sigma appears as an ordinary teenage boy of average build with short black hair and black eyes. His overall design is intentionally generic and unrefined, reflecting a background character aesthetic, though his facial features mirror those of his biological mother, Hisau Maiya. He wears long-sleeved outerwear, black pants, a scarf, and fingerless gloves. Although he physically looks like an adolescent, his growth was artificially halted in childhood through magecraft procedures, leaving his actual age in his late twenties.

Personality

Sigma possesses an unusually passive, detached, and unworldly demeanor, lacking the ruthless ambition typical of magi. Having no personal desire for the Holy Grail, his concerns are strictly pragmatic, prioritizing basic necessities such as securing daily meals and a restful sleep. He exhibits odd gaps in standard cultural knowledge and daily logic. Beneath his emotionless exterior lies a fundamental purity; through his interactions with both virtuous individuals and horrific anti-role models, he gradually develops a genuine sense of morality and righteous anger.

Abilities

Having undergone military training as a child soldier, Sigma is proficient with standard firearms and possesses high marksmanship accuracy. He can use magecraft to temporarily enhance his physical capabilities and senses, firing custom-processed bullets with high precision. Although his magical energy capacity and overall spellcasting abilities are low compared to expert magi, he excels at controlling familiars and possesses extraordinary survival skills. Additionally, he carries a specialized Mystic Code capable of scorching an opponent's Magic Circuits and paralyzing their nervous system.

Background

Born in a conflict zone, Sigma was raised in a dictatorial regime as a child soldier, subjected to intense military conditioning and magecraft experimentation that permanently stopped his aging and shortened his lifespan. After his unit was destroyed by Francesca, he entered her service and was deployed to the False Holy Grail War in Snowfield, where he summoned Watcher. Upon entering the dream realm and witnessing the tragedy of the comatose Kuruoka Tsubaki, he felt rage for the first time in his life, destroying her parents' Magic Circuits and resolving to break the Holy Grail War to save her.

Relationships

Sigma serves as the Master of Watcher, receiving guidance and trials through shadowy figures. To deceive his superior Faldeus Dioland, he falsely claims to have summoned Charlie Chaplin. He is the biological son of Hisau Maiya, who died during the Fourth Holy Grail War before they could reunite, and he is aware of her partner Emiya Kiritsugu. He forms an alliance with Saber and Ayaka Sajyou, and enters a temporary contract with True Assassin to protect her from Jester Karture. To save Kuruoka Tsubaki, he destroyed her parents' Magic Circuits. In his past, he killed his former squadmate Lambda following a betrayal.

Trivia

The name "Sigma" derives from the Greek letter Σ, originally assigned to him as a military squad identifier rather than a personal name. Despite his teenage appearance, he is chronologically in his late twenties, making him roughly the same age as or older than his superior, Faldeus Dioland. In related media such as a Fate/Grand Order event, it is noted that he entrusted future matters to the Prelatis prior to his demise.
