Overview

First introduced as the Rider of the Resistance in the Agartha singularity of Fate/Grand Order, Christopher Columbus is a Rider-class Servant based on the historical explorer of the Age of Discovery. Presenting himself as an inspiring commander who urges his followers never to give up, he maintains an ironclad confidence and an unyielding drive. However, beneath his optimistic and supportive facade lies a ruthless egoist driven by insatiable greed, conquest, and systemic enslavement.

Appearance

Christopher Columbus appears as a mature man with white hair and green eyes, standing 180 centimeters tall and weighing 84 kilograms. He wears a headpiece along with fingerless gloves on his hands. His facial features are defined by a persistent, fearless grin that distorts into intense, wide expressions showing sharp teeth when unleashing his true emotions.

Personality

Driven by intense optimism, Christopher Columbus preaches that no goal is impossible if one continuously presses forward regardless of adversity. He effortlessly commands respect through his encouraging behavior, often comforting disheartened allies. However, his core is rooted in unadulterated avarice. He views plundering, territorial domination, and human trafficking as entirely natural according to the values of his historical era, feeling no guilt for his atrocities. While intelligent enough to execute pragmatic retreats when outmatched, he remains utterly ruthless, ready to betray benefactors the moment it suits his goals.

Abilities

As a Rider, Columbus possesses Magic Resistance to nullify simple magecraft, alongside Riding to control conventional vehicles and mounts. His personal skill Voyager of the Storm enhances his allies' offensive output by combining leadership with maritime command expertise. Indomitable Will grants him fortitude against extreme pain and despair, while Conquistador reflects his legacy of conquest and enslavement to temporarily boost his combat power. His Noble Phantasm, Santa Maria Drop Anchor, summons his flagship onto land to issue the command for plundering, dealing devastating damage to all enemies.

Background

Historically, Columbus was the explorer who led three ships across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492 under Spanish patronage, reaching San Salvador and initiating European contact with the Americas. In the Agartha singularity of Fate/Grand Order, he was summoned without his memories, establishing a resistance movement of male refugees out of Shangri-La to resist the land's female rulers. After allying with Fujimaru Ritsuka and Chaldea to battle local powers, he recovered his true memories, seized control of Megalos and the Tamatebako, and betrayed Chaldea to turn Agartha into a personal slave-breeding enterprise. His plot was eventually foiled by Chaldea, ending when Fergus mac Roich dealt him a fatal blow.

Relationships

Initially presenting himself as a supportive partner to Fujimaru Ritsuka, Columbus ultimately turned on the Master to fulfill his avaricious dreams. He ambushed Helena Blavatsky, who had taken him in, seizing her sanctuary of Shangri-La and its refugees for his army. He led forces against Agartha's rulers, including Wu Zetian and Penthesilea, exploiting the underlying summoner Scheherazade's framework for his own financial game. In the end, his betrayal was cut short by his former ally Fergus mac Roich, who struck him down.

Trivia

Regarding the famous 'Egg of Columbus' anecdote, Columbus in Fate rejects the idea of cracking the bottom of the egg, asserting that spending days to balance it properly without breaking the shell is far more meaningful to demonstrate perseverance. Within the fanbase, he is universally known by the shorthand nickname 'Resi-Rider' (Regirai) and is widely recognized for his dramatically distorted, intense facial contortions.
