Overview
Kriemhild is a Berserker-class Servant in Fate/Grand Order and a major figure originating from the medieval German epic Poem of the Nibelungs. As the wife of the hero Siegfried, she takes center stage following his assassination, orchestrating a decades-long plot of bloody vengeance. Introduced in Chapter 6.5 of Part 2, Traum, she appears as the stern leader of the Revenge Realm, blending the elegance of a noble queen with cold, relentless cruelty.
Appearance
Kriemhild is a woman with wavy silver hair, grey or blue eyes, and a tear mole under her eye. She has a tongue piercing and wears a long-sleeved black dress reminiscent of mourning attire, complemented by black gloves and an ascot tie. Despite her slender frame, she carries a massive, ominous dark sword that she frequently drags along the ground.
Personality
Kriemhild is exceptionally cunning and tenacious, never forgetting a grudge. Despite her heavy obsession with revenge, she maintains proper etiquette and speaks candidly with neutral parties. She holds a severe distaste for self-sacrificing heroes who die satisfied while ignoring the grief of those left behind. Though usually composed, she easily becomes flustered when flustered or emotionally overwhelmed.
Abilities
Lacking formal martial training, Kriemhild relies on her extraordinary intellect, high luck, and sheer obsession. In battle, she discharges malice, summons curse pillars, and swings her stolen heavy sword. Her primary Noble Phantasm, Balmung Kriemhild, delivers a lethal strike focused entirely on slaying a target while damaging the user. She also possesses Hört Glut Rachegötter, a tactic-based Noble Phantasm that strikes through fiery ambushes, gaining extra lethality when used through deceit.
Background
Originally a princess of Burgundy, Kriemhild married Siegfried, but her life changed drastically when he was treacherously murdered. Refusing to let her grief end in quiet mourning, she spent over twenty years engineering her revenge. She entered a political marriage with the king of the Huns, using the alliance to incite a brutal war that consumed her brothers and her husband's killer, Hagen. She ultimately took Hagen's head using Siegfried's sword before meeting her own end.
Relationships
Her deep love for her husband, Siegfried, is entangled with bitter resentment over his willingness to die selflessly. She harbors supreme hatred toward Hagen for murdering Siegfried, as well as her brother Gunther, whom she dragged into war. Her relationship with her second husband, Altera (Etzel), was purely a pragmatic political arrangement to secure forces for her vendetta.
Trivia
In the original Poem of the Nibelungs, Kriemhild effectively serves as the story's main protagonist following Siegfried's demise. While sharing historical origins with the Norse mythological figure Gudrun, she is treated as a distinct entity within the franchise.
