Overview
Sajou Manaka is the central antagonist of Fate/Prototype and the main protagonist of its prequel, Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Blue and Silver. As the elder daughter of the Sajou family of magi and the older sister of Sajou Ayaka, she holds the highest Master rank of Seraph. Born with absolute talent and connected directly to the Root, she easily secured victory in the Holy Grail War eight years prior alongside her Servant, Saber, before later returning as the Master of Beast.
Appearance
Manaka is a girl with short blonde hair and blue eyes. Her signature attire is a blue off-shoulder dress featuring long sleeves, a detached collar, and frilled detailing. Located at the center of her chest is her Command Seal, alongside a visible scar left behind when she was pierced through the chest by Saber eight years ago. The outfit was originally given to her by her late mother.
Personality
On the surface, Manaka presents a purely innocent and sweet demeanor, yet she harbors the cold-blooded mindset of a magus, casually carrying out atrocious acts without remorse. Because she could accomplish anything from birth, she initially lacked human emotion until summoning Saber, after which she fell deeply in love with him. Her affection is intensely obsessive, prompting her to wield her omnipotence for his sake regardless of his actual wishes. She views her younger sister Ayaka as an ordinary person of no value, though she uniquely lacks the usual magus prejudice against modern science and technology.
Abilities
Connected to the Root from birth, Manaka possesses literal omnipotence and omniscience, able to cause life to emerge or death to spread simply by desiring it. She can perform spatial teleportation, enter dreams, traverse parallel worlds, and defeat Servants unassisted. Her body feels no fatigue, requires no sleep, is immune to deadly toxins, and can stop Lancer's mithril spear with a single finger. While her Magic Circuits possess EX-rank quality, their limited quantity imposes output constraints, leading her to use Beast as a booster to undo the Foundation of Human History. Even when restricted while possessing another body, she effortlessly casts high-level magecraft and elemental conversions.
Background
Born to Sajou Hiroki, Manaka grew up with an innate link to the Root. Eight years prior to Fate/Prototype, she entered the Tokyo Holy Grail War as a First-rank Master and summoned Arthur Pendragon as Saber. Discerning the true nature of the Grail, she slaughtered numerous young girls to fuel the rituals needed to grant Saber's wish. Although she secured an effortless victory, Saber revolted upon realizing the horror of her methods and stabbed her through the chest. Though her corpse was placed into the Great Grail, its power revived her, allowing her to return as the Master of Beast.
Relationships
Manaka harbors fanatical love for Arthur Pendragon (Saber), referring to him as her prince and striving to fulfill his wish above all else, though he ultimately betrayed and struck her down. She views her younger sister Sajou Ayaka as talentless, attempting to sacrifice her for her rituals. Assassin (Hassan of Serenity) became deeply devoted to her after Manaka touched her unharmed by poison, while Caster (Paracelsus) submitted to her upon seeing her connection to the Root. During the events of Fate/Labyrinth, she temporarily possessed the body of Noma Goodfellow.
Trivia
Her signature clothing was chosen by her late mother in hopes of helping her develop normal youthful interests. In Fate/Labyrinth, having her omnipotence sealed while possessing another body paradoxically allowed her to build relatively healthy interactions with Servants during the labyrinth exploration. She also makes appearances as a boss character in spin-off titles such as Choujikuu! Trouble Hanafuda Daisaken.
