Anksha

The RAS-96 Anksha is a mass-produced transformable mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam UC. Developed by Anaheim Electronics for the Earth Federation Forces, it serves as the direct atmospheric combat successor to the Titans' NRX-044 Asshimar. Designed specifically for atmospheric operation, the machine is deployed as primary air defense for strategic Earth facilities and the ultra-large transport aircraft Garuda. By incorporating standardized components shared with the Jegan series, the unit balances maintenance efficiency with high productivity. Additionally, its mobile armor transformation enables it to function as a sub-flight system capable of transporting other mobile suits into aerial engagements.

Overview

Appearance

The RAS-96 Anksha features a redesigned head housing a visor-style composite twin-eye sensor, beneath which an internal monoeye mechanism remains concealed. Its knee sections incorporate specialized knee crusher structures. Equipped on its sides are twin Movable Shield Binders. In its mobile armor configuration, the upper hull deploys specialized grips designed for trailing mobile suits to hold while riding atop the unit.

Abilities

Optimized for atmospheric flight, the RAS-96 Anksha offers high mobility and doubles as a sub-flight system to carry allied units in mobile armor mode. For armament, it carries twin head-mounted 60mm vulcan guns for harassment and two beam sabers stored within its knee crushers for dual-wield melee combat. Its pair of Movable Shield Binders provide defensive protection, propulsion, and direct generator-powered beam rifle fire, though they lack stabilizing handles. The frame is protected by Gundarium alloy armor.

Background

Developed during an era of military downsizing around U.C. 0096, the Anksha was created by Anaheim Electronics to redefine the high-cost transformable mobile suit concept. Building upon the legacy of the NRX-044 Asshimar, engineers adapted its frame to share standardized parts with the Jegan series, enhancing maintenance and manufacturing efficiency. The redesign of its camera eye into a visor format addressed political sensitivities within Federation leadership regarding monoeye units associated with Zeon and the Titans. Reclassified from a transformable mobile armor to a transformable mobile suit, the machine saw active service defending key positions and the transport ship Garuda in U.C. 0096, with operational deployment continuing through U.C. 0105.

Relationships

Manufactured by Anaheim Electronics for the Earth Federation Forces, the Anksha directly inherits its transformation mechanism and flight doctrine from the Titans' NRX-044 Asshimar. To streamline logistics, it incorporates standardized design elements shared with the RGM-89 Jegan and RGZ-95 ReZEL. Its specialized wing equipment adopts key structural concepts from the ORX-005 Gaplant's binder system. Operationally, the unit is tied to the ultra-large air transport Garuda, serving as its primary onboard aerial defense squadron.

Trivia

The name Anksha is derived from the elephant goad wielded by the Hindu deity Ganesha. In plastic model kit releases, High Grade Universal Century produced the unit in 2012. Despite being the structural successor to the Asshimar, the model kit utilized entirely new tooling without reusing any runner parts from the earlier HGUC Asshimar kit. The redesign modernized the articulation layout, introducing a swappable waist joint for full axial rotation and replacing ABS-heavy assemblies with modern polycap connections.
