Overview

Archimedes is a Caster-class Servant introduced in the Fate/EXTELLA series. Based on the historical mathematician and engineer from ancient Syracuse, he was appointed by the Moon Cell Automaton as an unaligned system administrator overseeing the security of SE.RA.PH outside the Holy Grail War. Beneath his professional duties, he secretly drives the core events of the narrative behind the scenes.

Appearance

Archimedes features short brown hair with strands falling between his brown eyes, adhering to a dark grey color motif. Beneath his clothing, the left side of his upper torso is corrupted, displaying distinct patterns of purple alongside glowing yellow and orange. He wears a glove on one hand to conceal this corruption. His attire includes scholarly battle armor and refined academic garments.

Personality

Archimedes values absolute logic, cold rationality, and mathematical certainty above all else. He despises unquantifiable factors such as human bonds, love, and ambiguous conclusions. While he prefers maintaining efficient systems with detachment, he flies into explosive outbursts of rage whenever chaotic, irrational individuals disrupt his meticulous calculations. He has a distinct habit of repeating words paired with the phrase "indeed."

Abilities

Although possessing low magic proficiency, Archimedes commands High-Speed Incantation (Rank A) through rapid mental processing, alongside Item Construction (Rank A+) to craft gear from era-specific materials. His unique High-Speed Formula Explanation (Rank EX) allows him to analyze and repair damaged magic circuits and crests, while Slaughter Techniques (Tool) (Rank A) boosts the lethal output of his inventive killing mechanisms. Furthermore, his spirit origin status allows him to shift across parallel timelines prior to Quantum Time-Lock points. His Noble Phantasm, Katoptron Katophlegon, uses hexagonal mirrors to converge sunlight and atmospheric Mana into a destructive heat ray, and he also commands an Anti-Castle restraint Noble Phantasm.

Background

In life, Archimedes was a Syracuse scholar famous for proving crown composition through water displacement and defending his homeland with war engines, dying at the hands of a Roman soldier while guarding his mathematical diagrams. As a Servant, he inspected the remains of the Umbral Star Velber 02 in the Moon Cell and fell under its corruption. Disillusioned by humanity's imperfect history, he became Velber's secret agent, orchestrating the splitting of Hakuno Kishinami and manipulating timeline branches to guarantee the destruction of SE.RA.PH.

Relationships

Nero Claudius initially respected him as "Scholar" before turning against him upon learning of his treachery. He attempted to manipulate Elizabeth Báthory, but her incomprehensible, reckless decisions repeatedly ruined his master plans, turning her into his worst bane. He views Altera purely as a destructive mechanism, clashing with her over methodology. Though he presented himself as a mentor to Hakuno Kishinami, Hakuno eventually rejected his ideals. Gilgamesh and Artoria Pendragon also disrupted his calculated schemes through contractual loopholes and battle victories.

Trivia

His Noble Phantasm is rooted in the legend of burning Roman ships with mirrors, explained in-universe as harnessing ancient atmospheric Mana despite modern scientific skepticism. He is historically famous for his final words demanding his geometric drawings not be stepped on. In Fate/EXTELLA LINK, he reappears as a system overseer in a timeline free of Velber's control, reluctantly aiding the protagonists when a new threat disrupts systemic balance.
