Overview
Auel Neider is a character in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY. Serving within the Earth Alliance's elite 81st Autonomous Mobile Group "Phantom Pain," he is a biologically enhanced soldier known as an Extended. Alongside his squadmates, he infiltrates the ZAFT military space colony Armory One and steals the ZGMF-X31S Abyss, becoming its primary mobile suit pilot.
Appearance
He features light blue hair and deep blue eyes.
Personality
Outside of combat, he can be competitive yet friendly, spending downtime playing one-on-one basketball or watching out for his squadmates. On the battlefield, however, his disposition shifts dramatically into an aggressive, ruthless demeanor marked by vulgar speech and volatile outbursts when provoked. Due to his mental conditioning, he suffers severe emotional instability, particularly when encountering his specific psychological blockword, "mother."
Abilities
Conditioned from a young age through live-combat drills, firearms training, and specialized biological adjustments, he possesses remarkable combat aptitude and piloting skills. Operating the Abyss, he demonstrates exceptional proficiency in aquatic warfare, using underwater strike tactics to overwhelm enemy vessels and mobile suits.
Background
Raised in the secret research facility at Lodonia, his past identity was erased through intense conditioning, memory wipes, and physical enhancements. After stealing the Abyss from Armory One, he engaged in repeated sorties against the ZAFT vessel Minerva. During an engagement in the Mediterranean near Crete, his unit was breached by Shinn Asuka's Blast Impulse, resulting in his mobile suit exploding underwater and making him the first among his Extended comrades to perish in battle.
Relationships
He operates alongside his Extended squadmates, Sting Oakley and Stella Loussier. Off duty, he shares a friendly rivalry with Sting Oakley and shows concern for Stella Loussier when she wanders off. His deep psychological attachment to a female researcher from his childhood at the Lodonia lab lies at the root of his trauma regarding the word "mother." In combat, he meets his end at the hands of Shinn Asuka.
Trivia
In the official novelization, his final moments feature an internal monologue where he calmly reflects on his bond with his squadmates despite his impending death.
