Bawoo

The AMX-107 Bawoo is a transformable attack mobile suit originating from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, developed by Neo Zeon. Created to overcome the combat limitations of the Gaza-C, it boasts high mobility and melee performance comparable to the Zeta Gundam. Its defining operational trait is its ability to split into upper and lower flight units. First fielded as a prototype driven by Glemy Toto, it was later produced in mass-production configurations, playing a key role throughout the First Neo Zeon War and inspiring multiple variants in later conflicts.

Overview

The AMX-107 Bawoo is a transformable attack mobile suit originating from the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, developed by Neo Zeon. Created to overcome the combat limitations of the Gaza-C, it boasts high mobility and melee performance comparable to the Zeta Gundam. Its defining operational trait is its ability to split into upper and lower flight units. First fielded as a prototype driven by Glemy Toto, it was later produced in mass-production configurations, playing a key role throughout the First Neo Zeon War and inspiring multiple variants in later conflicts.

Appearance

The unit features a prominent crest on its head and is equipped with a green mono-eye visual sensor. Its sleek silhouette closely resembles the Zeta Gundam, with flexible wing binders on its back housing six missiles. The prototype piloted by Glemy Toto is painted in a vibrant orange-red color scheme, featuring a unique single-character kanji marking combining the characters for dragon and flying on its left front skirt armor. Mass-production models are colored green, while Glemy's rebel faction units are painted grey. Other variations include a pink custom model and variants bearing decorative sleeve engravings.

Abilities

The suit can divide into two flight components: the piloted upper Bawoo Attacker and the lower Bawoo Nutter. The lower unit is equipped with an inertial guidance system and a warhead, allowing it to function as a massive remote-controlled missile. Its handheld beam rifle offers rapid-fire capability and can project a long beam bayonet blade. Each forearm houses an internal 0.88 MW beam saber on the inside and a 4-round grenade launcher on the outside. Additionally, it carries a shield integrating five 0.77 MW mega particle cannons.

Background

Developed by Axis to replace the poorly performing Gaza-C with a fully fledged variable mobile suit, the project incorporated expertise from former Principality of Zeon engineers. Initial proposals included multi-pilot setups or fully manned forms, but resource constraints and Minovsky particle interference led to a simplified configuration. Influenced by Glemy Toto, the design finalized on using the separated lower section as a guided kinetic payload. Following successful prototype trials, green mass-production units were fielded across Neo Zeon forces, supporting transport details and seeing action during internal insurgencies.

Relationships

Glemy Toto served as the primary test pilot for the initial prototype, playing a key role in refining its combat concept. Other notable pilots who operated units of this machine include Gotton Go, Arias Moma, and Rezin Schnyder. In combat, the machine directly clashed against the Zeta Gundam piloted by Judau Ashta.

Trivia

The machine was initially drafted by Hideo Okamoto before being finalized by Yutaka Izubuchi, who conceptualized the design as a mono-eye version of the Zeta Gundam. Its head crest retains visual elements from an earlier design stage based on the Barzam. The kanji character used for its formal title fuses the characters for dragon and flight, a rare real-world character pronounced as bow or bau. The mechanical concept of splitting into separable flight units to be used as projectile ordnance influenced mobile suit development concepts in later Universal Century lore, serving as a structural precursor to machines like the Victory Gundam.
