Overview

The XM-05 Berga Giros is a high-performance commander-use mobile suit belonging to the Crossbone Vanguard, featured in the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam F91 and related media. Developed as a direct evolution of the Berga Dallas, this unit boasts enhanced mobility and heavy close-combat firepower. It is most famously recognized as the personal machine of Zabine Chareux, the captain who leads the elite Black Vanguard squadron.

Appearance

The unit features blue camera eyes and, on Zabine Chareux's customized machine, dual radio antennae mounted on the head. Standard production models are painted in a purple color scheme reminiscent of the Berga Dallas, whereas Zabine's specialized unit uses a striking black and lilac palette. A custom unit piloted by Stein is painted entirely in gold. Equipped on its back are advanced shelf nozzles capable of generating a beam flag, which displays the Ronah family emblem on standard elite units and the Chareux family emblem on Zabine's machine.

Abilities

Equipped with refined rear shelf nozzles and built without unnecessary apogee motors, the machine achieves a lightweight structure with vastly superior acceleration and agility compared to standard mobile suits. Its primary armament is a handheld Shot Lancer, which is augmented with heavy machine guns on Zabine Chareux's machine. In emergencies, the back nozzles can be jettisoned to serve as kinetic mass projectiles. Specialized configurations include a firepower-enhanced type carrying leg-mounted anti-ship missiles, a custom model with shoulder-mounted Hob Bugs enabling thruster-less flight via Minovsky technology, and the upgraded Berga Balus featuring wing-like nozzles.

Background

Indigenously developed by the Crossbone Vanguard, the Berga Giros was engineered to provide unit leaders with unparalleled agility and combat strength. During the assault on the Frontier Side colonies, it served on the front lines under the command of elite aces, most notably Zabine Chareux of the Black Vanguard. In the manga Mobile Suit Gundam Climax U.C.: The Thread of Braided Blood, Lieutenant Stein Banner piloted a gold-painted variant during the attack on Frontier 1, successfully destroying five mobile suits and a battleship to earn the moniker "War Demon."

Relationships

The mobile suit's primary pilot is Zabine Chareux, commander of the elite Black Vanguard. In expanded universe media, Lieutenant Stein Banner (Shun Tachibana) piloted a golden unit, clashing in battle against the Prototype Javelin piloted by his father Kamuna and the F90II piloted by his sister Nana. Colonel Jire Kruger also drafted a unique variant equipped with Hob Bug technology. Within the Crossbone Vanguard's mobile suit lineage, the unit stands as the direct successor to the Berga Dallas and the technological predecessor to the Berga Balus.

Trivia

In physical merchandise, the Berga Giros was released as a 1/100 scale plastic model kit. Additionally, it was featured in the "GUNDAM CONVERGE" candy toy figure line, which produced miniature figures for both the standard purple color scheme and Zabine Chareux's iconic black color variant.
