Overview
Daryl Dodge is a supporting character and mobile suit pilot in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. Serving in the Union military, he is selected as one of the elite members of the Anti-Gundam Investigative Squad, also known as the Overflags, under the command of Graham Aker. He is a pragmatic soldier who combines a fierce combat demeanor with a grounded approach to warfare.
Appearance
Daryl is a male character depicted with dark skin and striking red hair. During operations, he wears the standard Union military uniform and combat pilot suit.
Personality
In combat, Daryl displays a bold and aggressive demeanor, driven by an intense fighting spirit. Unlike his commander Graham Aker and fellow squadmate Howard Mason, he harbors no romanticized obsession with defeating Gundams using only the Union Flag, maintaining a clear pragmatic military view. However, he is fiercely devoted to his friends, demonstrating intense emotion and conviction when seeking revenge for a fallen comrade.
Abilities
He is an accomplished mobile suit pilot capable of operating high-performance machines. He handles both the SVMS-01 Union Flag and its upgraded variant, the SVMS-01O Overflag, before transitioning to the GNX-603T GN-X equipped with a pseudo-GN Drive, utilizing aggressive tactics in battle.
Background
Serving as a Master Sergeant in the Union military, Daryl was chosen to join the Anti-Gundam Investigative Squad, the Overflags, under Graham Aker. After his close comrade Howard Mason was killed by the Gundam Throne Zwei, Daryl resolved to avenge him. Setting aside any loyalty to the Flag, he volunteered to transfer to the newly formed UN forces squad to pilot the GN-X. In the final decisive battle, he targeted Lockon Stratos in the Gundam Dynames and perished in a head-on attack.
Relationships
Daryl serves directly under Graham Aker within the Overflags unit. He shares a strong personal tie with fellow pilot Howard Mason, whose loss directly triggers Daryl's pursuit of vengeance. Following his transfer to the UN forces, he becomes a colleague of Patrick Colasour. In his final battle, he targets Lockon Stratos, pilot of the Gundam Dynames, as the focus of his retribution.
Trivia
Daryl's willingness to abandon the Union Flag for the GN-X in order to achieve his revenge serves as a pragmatic contrast to the aesthetic devotion shown by Graham Aker and Howard Mason toward their original machines.
