Overview

The XM-02 Den'an Gei is a mass-produced general-purpose mobile suit from the anime film Mobile Suit Gundam F91, deployed by the Crossbone Vanguard. Developed from the close-combat Den'an Zon, it represents the technological transition from older large-scale mobile suits to miniaturized models. Operating primarily as a versatile unit, it frequently serves as a squad commander craft or training suit.

Appearance

Standing 13.9 meters tall, the machine is distinctive for the blade antennas positioned on both sides of its head, which easily differentiate it from the antenna-less Den'an Zon. Its beam shield generates a uniquely shaped, deformed rectangular energy barrier. Custom color schemes exist, including a black and purple variant for Zabine Chareux's unit and a red and purple scheme for the Dark Tiger squad.

Abilities

Upgraded with additional sensors and enhanced apogee motors, it boasts superior mobility and performance compared to the Den'an Zon. Designed for mid-to-long-range shooting and hit-and-run combat, it is equipped with a beam rifle, grenade launcher, arm beam cannon, beam saber, and a specialized beam shield. It is highly responsive and controllable, capable of disabling enemy units in close combat through physical strikes.

Background

Deployed during the invasion of the Frontier Side colonies, it demonstrated total superiority over the Earth Federation's Jegan forces during the Crossbone Vanguard's debut operations. It frequently led formations accompanied by Den'an Zon units. During battle, commander Zabine Chareux commandeered one as a replacement craft after his own mobile suit was damaged. It also notably engaged the Gundam F91, where its beam shield repelled standard rifle fire, prompting the first deployment of the F91's V.S.B.R. weapon.

Relationships

The machine was piloted by Zabine Chareux, who utilized a custom-painted version while commanding his elite unit and later took one as a replacement suit. Another custom variant was assigned to the Dark Tiger unit led by Shelf Field. On the battlefield, it routinely operated alongside the Den'an Zon and engaged in combat against the Gundam F91 piloted by Seabook Arno.

Trivia

In the film, a humorous interaction occurs during a military parade in a captured colony when a civilian mistakes the unit for a Den'an Zon and is immediately corrected by another bystander. Additionally, due to a tactical miscalculation by the Gundam F91's bio-computer regarding shield defensive capacity, it holds the distinction of being the very first target destroyed by the F91's high-powered V.S.B.R.
