Overview
Eric Bloodaxe is a Berserker-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order. Based on the 9th-century Viking king who ruled Norway, he is famously known by the epithet Bloodaxe. Historical accounts attribute his fearsome reputation to his ruthless bloody purge of his own siblings to secure the throne, as well as the shadowy influence of his witch wife, Gunnhild. Though summoned as a violent warrior who utters mindless roars, his ferocious persona hides a surprisingly rational nature.
Appearance
Eric is a tall, highly muscular man standing 195 cm tall and weighing 115 kg. He has long brown hair styled with a curtained part, red eyes, and a brown beard. His chest and abdomens are exposed, showing his collarbone and chest hair. He carries a massive, dark red double-sided war axe made from the body of a magical beast.
Personality
Due to his B-rank Mad Enhancement, he usually acts as an uncommunicative beast shouting for blood, but he is secretly a reasonable, polite, and genial man with the mind of a ruler. He deliberately feigns madness out of consideration for others, knowing that his deeply possessive wife, Gunnhild, will cast terrifying curses on any woman who talks to him. He treats his Master with genuine gratitude and respect, displaying a thoughtful side beneath his fearsome exterior.
Abilities
His B-rank Mad Enhancement boosts all of his basic parameters at the cost of sane communication. Through Support Sorcery, his wife Gunnhild remote-casts curses from the Throne of Heroes to lower enemy combat status. He can also stay fighting through grave injuries using Battle Continuation, and heal himself using the Half-Dead Bloodaxe. His Noble Phantasm, Bloodbath Crown, unleashes a devastating all-out charge that pulverizes enemies, though it inflicts recoil damage upon himself.
Background
Historically, Eric ruled Norway for merely three years before being ousted and fleeing to England, where he lived out his remaining days as a local ruler. Despite his brief reign, his legacy was defined by the bloody elimination of his brothers and sisters to claim power, supported by his formidable wife Gunnhild. Summoned in Fate/Grand Order during the threat to humanity, he is allowed to serve his Master only because Gunnhild conditionally granted her approval during this crisis.
Relationships
He deeply loves his wife Gunnhild, though her extreme jealousy and persistent curses cause him endless trouble. He holds great appreciation for his Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka, encouraging them in their quest to save humanity. He harbors a somewhat critical view of Edward Teach's idealized views on women, while maintaining a friendly rapport with Tamamo Cat due to her understanding nature. He also has brief comedic interactions with characters like Sei Shonagon, EMIYA, and Sakata Kintoki.
Trivia
His Noble Phantasm name, Bloodbath Crown, inspired a famous community running joke during the release of Lostbelt No. 6, where fans jokingly predicted his sudden appearance due to thematic coincidences. His Valentine's Day craft essence item features a hilarious thank-you letter from his wife Gunnhild, filled with thinly veiled death threats and curses aimed at the Master.
