Overview
Frankenstein's Monster is a Berserker-class Servant appearing in the Fate franchise, including Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order. Based on the legendary creature from Mary Shelley's gothic novel, this version is depicted as a young female created by Victor Frankenstein. Commonly referred to as "Fran" or the "Berserker of Black," she is an artificial lifeform who seeks to live with the heart and dignity of a normal human.
Appearance
She has short pink hair covering her heterochromatic eyes, which are blue and yellow. A single horn protrudes from her forehead, and cylindrical devices are attached to both sides of her head near her ears. Her outfit consists of a white bridal dress featuring a black see-through section at the chest, a black veil, long white gloves extending past the elbows, and black thigh-high stockings. She wields a large mace wrapped in branching electrical discharges, topped with a spherical apex.
Personality
Despite her classification as a Berserker, her low rank of Mad Enhancement leaves her with impressive intellectual capacity. Traumatized by her creator calling her a monster, she actively tries to remain sensible and rational. Due to her electrical nature, she has a humorous passion for energy conservation and detests any waste of power. Communicating primarily through expressive grunts and vocalizations, she harbors a sweet disposition toward those who earn her trust. Her wish for the Holy Grail is to find a compatible artificial mate, driven by a logical desire to experience life like an ordinary human.
Abilities
Her primary skill, Galvanism, allows her to absorb intangible magic attacks and convert them into electricity, which enhances her physical parameters, speeds up self-repair, and enables hover-like movement. Her artificial biology lets her manipulate pain sensation, granting high battle continuation even after sustaining heavy bodily damage. Her weapon, Bridal Chest, functions as a pseudo-perpetual motion machine by drawing in surrounding ambient mana. Her broad-range Noble Phantasm, Blasted Tree, unleashes a massive burst of tree-shaped lightning from cloud formations; while safe at controlled outputs, unlocking all limiters causes complete cessation of her life functions.
Background
Created by Victor Frankenstein as an artificial Eve designed to mother a new Adam, she was assembled from stitched-together human bodies. Frightened by her lack of emotional control and violent outbursts, Victor abandoned her immediately upon creation. Wandering the world, she gradually gained intelligence and emotional capacity, which eventually turned into resentment toward her creator. She pursued Victor all the way to Antarctica, driving him to suicide from sheer exhaustion. Summoned into modern Holy Grail conflicts, she fights as the Berserker of Black in Fate/Apocrypha and acts as a central figure in the London chapter of Fate/Grand Order.
Relationships
She holds complex resentment toward her creator, Victor Frankenstein, for abandoning her. In Fate/Apocrypha, she forms a strong bond of mutual trust with her Master, Caules Forvedge Yggdmillennia. Though initially adversaries, Mordred treats her affectionately like a younger sister in Fate/Grand Order. She displays deep affection toward her Chaldean Master, Ritsuka Fujimaru, opening her heart completely to them. Additionally, she gets annoyed by Nikola Tesla whenever he wastes electricity.
Trivia
Her visual design was created by Ototsugu Konoe for Fate/Apocrypha and Takeshi Okazaki for Fate/Grand Order. Known for her humorous habit of turning off lights and pulling electrical cords, her lore highlights a strong preference for power saving and clean environments. Beyond her base Berserker form, she has appeared as a Swimsuit Saber in Fate/Grand Order and as a Caster-class Santa Servant in the arcade version of the game.
