Overview
The FXA-05D G-Defenser is a transformable support fighter belonging to the AEUG in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Developed by Anaheim Electronics, it was created to augment the battle performance of the Gundam Mk-II. Operating mainly as a mid- to long-range support and bombardment vehicle, it plays a vital role in providing firepower and mobility upgrades to its paired unit.
Appearance
Featuring a blue and white color scheme, the G-Defenser measures 39.5 meters in total length with a wingspan of 27.1 meters. The nose of the aircraft contains a detachable Core Fighter cockpit section. Large pontoon units function as binders along the sides, and powerful thrusters are positioned at the rear alongside a massive Long Rifle.
Abilities
The aircraft can combine with the Gundam Mk-II to form the G-Flyer cruising configuration and the Super Gundam mobile suit form. Its primary weapons consist of a 6.8MW Long Rifle, twin 14-tube missile pods, and four 60mm vulcan guns. The detachable Core Fighter retains dual mini-laser cannons. It is also compatible with other mobile suits like the Nemo and Jegan III.
Background
Designed around the design concept of the earlier G-Armor, it was delivered to the Argama alongside the Methuss. Kats Kobayashi served as its primary pilot, routinely backing up Emma Sheen in combat. During the climax of the Gryps Conflict, the detached Core Fighter collided with an asteroid, and the main frame of the G-Defenser was destroyed shortly after. It was later succeeded by the Mega Rider.
Relationships
Kats Kobayashi is the primary pilot assigned to the unit, sortieing with it in numerous operations. It frequently operates in tandem with Emma Sheen, who pilots the Gundam Mk-II. Fa Yuiry is also recognized as an alternate pilot.
Trivia
Variant concepts include models fitted with a radome instead of the Core Fighter, as well as specialized derivatives such as the D-Defenser. In model kit lines, it is frequently packaged alongside the Gundam Mk-II under the Super Gundam release name, and its underlying equipment system inspired the Defenser Units used by the ReZEL.
