GM Cannon II

The RGC-83 GM Cannon II is a mass-produced artillery support mobile suit operated by the Earth Federation Forces in *Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory*. Serving as an advanced evolution of the earlier GM Cannon, it represents the refined concept of mass-producing the Guncannon line. Two units were assigned to the assault carrier Albion, where pilots Chuck Keith and Chap Adel utilized their heavy fire-support capabilities during the operation to recover the stolen Gundam Development Unit 2.

Overview

The RGC-83 GM Cannon II is a mass-produced artillery support mobile suit operated by the Earth Federation Forces in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

Appearance

Featuring the iconic visor-style main camera common to GM units, the mobile suit is encased in bulky outer armor derived from the Gundam Alex's Chobham Armor concept. Twin long-barreled beam cannons are mounted on its shoulders, accompanied by two head-integrated vulcan guns. For handheld equipment, it carries a GM rifle and a broad shield, while carrying a beam saber for close-range defense.

Abilities

Constructed with titanium-ceramic composite armor inspired by the Chobham concept, the unit boasts exceptional defensive strength at the cost of mobility. Its 1,420 kW generator provides sufficient power to replace traditional shell-firing cannons with twin shoulder-mounted beam cannons. Powered by eight thrusters delivering 59,480 kg of total thrust, it executes a 180-degree turn in 1.6 seconds. The suit also utilizes a GM rifle, twin head vulcans, a beam saber, and a shield, retaining high structural component compatibility with standard GM series machines.

Background

Developed around the end of the One Year War, the machine merged the framework of the Guncannon Mass Production Type with GM parts compatibility and the protective armor concepts of the Gundam Alex. Proven as an effective support platform, two units joined the crew of the Albion during the pursuit of the hijacked Gundam Development Unit 2. The suit demonstrated solid combat performance in various engagements, including operations against remnant Zeon forces operating mobile armors near Von Braun City.

Relationships

Deployed with the Earth Federation Forces' Albion squad, the unit was piloted by Chuck Keith, Chap Adel, and Ben Wooder. In terms of design lineage, it serves as the direct successor to both the GM Cannon and the Guncannon Mass Production Type, while adopting structural defense elements from the RX-78NT-1 Alex.

Trivia

In addition to its role in animated works, the GM Cannon II appears as a usable mobile suit in tactical crossover video games such as Super Robot Taisen Alpha and Super Robot Taisen Alpha Gaiden.
