Gaza-D

The AMX-006 Gaza-D is a mass-produced transformable mobile suit developed by Axis (later Neo Zeon), featured in *Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ* and *Mobile Suit Gundam UC*. Designed as the direct successor to the Gaza-C, it rectified the structural vulnerabilities and operational limitations of its predecessor while preserving high manufacturing efficiency. The suit served as a core frontline unit for Neo Zeon forces during the First Neo Zeon War and remained active in later remnant operations.

Overview

The AMX-006 Gaza-D is a mass-produced transformable mobile suit developed by Axis (later Neo Zeon), featured in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Mobile Suit Gundam UC.

Appearance

The Gaza-D shares a similar transformable frame silhouette with the Gaza-C. In Mobile Armor mode, a single mono-eye sensor is embedded in its nose unit. Structural changes move the wing binders to the shoulders rather than the forearms and place the cockpit inside the abdomen. Its main gun features a cylindrical muzzle tip. Visual schemes include blue-and-pink and pink-and-purple finishes, alongside a traditional moss-green paint job used by later remnant forces.

Abilities

Equipped with a simplified transformation system between Mobile Suit and Mobile Armor modes, the Gaza-D features a reinforced generator and rigid frame that enable close-quarters combat capabilities. Its primary weapon is the Knuckle Buster, a generator-linked mega particle cannon producing an 8.3 MW output. The shoulder binders hold multi-barrel missile pods and stored beam sabers, complemented by a nose-mounted double beam gun. In Mobile Armor mode, it utilizes deployable leg claws for melee combat, integrated claw mega particle cannons with a wide sweep, and smoke dischargers capable of deploying red smoke screens.

Background

Although the Gaza-C achieved success through massed tactical deployments during the Gryps Conflict, its reliance on a converted worker-unit design left severe structural and operational flaws. The Gaza-D was engineered as a dedicated combat machine, correcting these issues while retaining factory line compatibility. Following initial deployment of three pre-production models to Shangri-La Colony, it became the backbone of Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon War. Its architecture influenced subsequent specialized designs like the Ga-Zowmn, and individual units remained active with "The Sleeves" in UC 0096 and space pirates in UC 0115.

Relationships

The machine served under the Neo Zeon leadership of Haman Karn. Notable pilots recorded operating the suit include Gremmy Toto and Gotton Go. It was also famously fielded by the Gaza Storm Team—comprising pilots Panpa Rida, Bian, and Wyme—who utilized coordinated unit formations. Within machine development trees, it connects directly from its predecessor, the Gaza-C, to subsequent mobile suits such as the Ga-Zowmn and Gaza-E.

Trivia

A 1/144 scale plastic model kit was released in May 1986. Classified among older kits requiring glue and paint, it featured polycap joints and achieved near-complete transformation into Mobile Armor mode with only wrist removal needed. The kit notably reached stores prior to any model kit release of the original Gaza-C. Additionally, the tactical "Gaza Storm Formation" executed by the Gaza Storm Team became remembered for its comedic outcome, as the red smoke screen deployed to disorient opponents ended up blinding the team members themselves.
