Appearance
This unit retains classic Zeon mobile suit features, including a single horn antenna on its head and a mono-eye optical sensor that displays red or purple hues. Its paint scheme consists of dark blue paired with a muted grayish-blue. The suit's defining visual characteristic is its bulky lower body, featuring heavily widened legs and expanded skirt armor designed to contain high-output thermonuclear jet engines.
Abilities
Equipped with thermonuclear jet engines in its legs and waist, the unit is capable of sustained atmospheric flight and rapid hovering movement. Its armaments include a triple-barrel 35mm machine gun attached to the left forearm and a Gatling shield integrating a 75mm rotary cannon. A heat sword for close-quarters combat is stowed within the inner face of the shield. Although its flight stability is high, the unit suffers from restricted operating range and high consumption rates.
Background
Zeon military planners originally relied on sub-flight craft like the Dodai YS to expand the Gouf's operational range, but concurrently pursued the MS-07H initiative for self-sustained aerial flight. Early prototypes were prone to severe flight instability and accidents, but the H-8 variant eventually achieved reliable flight dynamics. Produced in limited numbers, units were stationed at the secret Lhasa base in Tibet to provide air support for the Apsalus III mobile armor, engaging in aerial battles against the Earth Federation's 08th MS Team. Due to remaining constraints in range and flight duration, Zeon suspended flying mobile suit development after this unit, pivoting toward hover mobility using the MS-09 Dom.
Relationships
The unit counts veteran Zeon pilot Norris Packard among its known operators. Assigned to defend the secret Lhasa facility, units served as aerial escorts for the massive experimental mobile armor Apsalus III. In this role, the suit engaged directly with the Earth Federation Army's 08th MS Team, taking on their ground combat units including the Gundam Ez8 and Ground Type Gundams.
Trivia
The designation MS-07H-8 indicates that the machine is the eighth modification stage within the Gouf flight test prototype program. Aside from its presence in the primary OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, the unit also makes an appearance in the short animated film Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team - Battle in Three Dimensions.
