Overview

Grand Gundam is a Mobile Fighter featured in Mobile Fighter G Gundam, bearing the title Shishou Souha as one of the Devil Gundam's Four Heavenly Kings. Originally the John Bull Gundam representing Neo England, the machine mutated into this monstrous form through the power of DG Cells. Excelling in land combat, it serves as a powerhouse within the Devil Gundam Corps, using its massive strength and heavy defense to crush opposing fighters.

Appearance

Grand Gundam is a colossal Mobile Fighter boasting the largest body among the Devil Gundam's Four Heavenly Kings. It can alternate between a four-legged Attack Mode and a bipedal Standing Mode. Even in its standing mode, it lacks conventional manipulators on its upper limbs, instead utilizing its folded leg structures as giant claw-like extremities. Its back is equipped with a pair of massive horn-like appendages known as the Grand Horns, alongside long-range cannons.

Personality

While the machine itself lacks a mind of its own, Grand Gundam manifests an unyielding, merciless presence on the battlefield, reflecting the corrupting influence of the DG Cells upon its pilot. It fights with a brutal and relentless combat style, using its overwhelming mass to pin down and crush adversaries without hesitation.

Abilities

Powered by DG Cells, Grand Gundam possesses high self-regeneration capabilities and virtually unlimited ammunition. Its signature physical attack is a powerful stomp using its immense weight. The Grand Horns on its back can extend to extreme lengths to impale enemies or discharge high-energy electricity via Grand Thunder. Its Grand Cannon delivers powerful long-range artillery strikes capable of targeting foes beyond line of sight. It can also fire wire-guided manipulators using Grand Bomber to grapple, strike, or anchor itself to terrain. Though its mobility is low, its defense and heavy armor are exceptional.

Background

Following the downfall and death of Neo England's representative Gentle Chapman, the pilot was resurrected by DG Cells, transforming his unit into Grand Gundam. During the battle on Lantau Island, it confronted George de Sand's Gundam Rose and Chibodee Crocket's Gundam Maxter simultaneously. Despite overwhelming both opponents with its massive firepower and physical strength, it was ultimately defeated when a combined effort enabled a fatal strike directly into its cockpit.

Relationships

Grand Gundam is piloted by Gentle Chapman, who was resurrected and controlled by DG Cells. Within the Devil Gundam Corps, it operates alongside Master Gundam, Gundam Heaven's Sword, and Walter Gundam as part of the Four Heavenly Kings. During its key engagement, it fought against George de Sand of Neo France (piloting Gundam Rose) and Chibodee Crocket of Neo America (piloting Gundam Maxter).

Trivia

Director Yasuhiro Imagawa deliberately intentionally designed Grand Gundam to look grotesquely heavy and brutal, serving as a harsh contrast to the sleeker designs of the other Four Heavenly Kings. Because of its unconventional silhouette and lack of standard humanoid arms, it is widely considered a classic example of a 'getemono' (freak-type) Mobile Suit within the franchise. In select video game adaptations, it is uniquely given a larger size classification compared to its peers.
