Overview
The GT-9600 Gundam Leopard is a heavy combat mobile suit introduced in After War Gundam X. Developed by the Old Earth Federation during the 7th Space War as a strategic unit, it is piloted in the story by Roabea Loy. Designed primarily for ground warfare, this machine functions as a walking arsenal loaded with an extensive array of built-in weaponry to overpower enemy forces with intense broadsides.
Appearance
The suit features heavily armored, tank-like styling highlighted by distinctive orange twin-eye sensors. The soles of its feet are fitted with rollers and caterpillar tracks. Its silhouette incorporates a broad shoulder unit acting as a weapons container on the right side, an integrated launching setup on the right forearm, dual independent chest hatches, forward shin compartments, and a mounting rack along the right lower leg.
Abilities
Its primary offensive component is the Inner Arm Gatling, a high-output beam weapon stored on the backpack that fits over the left arm. It holds an array of projectile armaments including head vulcans and cannons, dual breast gatlings with separately opening hatches, a right-forearm grenade launcher, eleven shoulder missiles, and infrared-guided Hornet missiles housed in the shins. For close combat, it carries a heat-efficient beam knife. Built-in sole rollers grant high mobility via roller dashes. Although unable to fly or submerge natively, it can mount specialized S-1 aquatic gear or separate missile pods. It was also capable of operating up to twelve GT-Bit units via the Flash System.
Background
Built during the 7th Space War as an early Newtype-use Gundam, the unit achieved tremendous results commanding automated GT-Bits. By the time of the main narrative, it is operated by Roabea Loy as part of the Freeden's mercenary force. Without natural flight or aquatic capabilities, the suit utilized custom attachments such as snow skids and the salvaged S-1 equipment crafted by technician Kid Salsamille for ocean engagements. During a fierce battle against the mobile armor Gabul in Estard, the Leopard took critical damage and lost both arms, precipitating its rebuilding into the upgraded Gundam Leopard Destroy.
Relationships
Roabea Loy pilots the machine, which he reportedly received from a deceased woman whose history with the military remains unknown. Kid Salsamille, the mechanic aboard the Freeden, crafted the custom S-1 underwater unit out of salvaged salvage-merchant parts to remedy the mobile suit's inability to fight in marine operations.
Trivia
The machine's model number follows the 9000-series designation used for wartime Gundams in the series. Its physical design directly evokes real-world armored tanks. Additional design variants exist on paper, such as the amphibious assault combat plan Leo Diver, the heavily gunned tread-bottomed artillery unit Leo Tank, and the close-quarters melee variant Leopard Iron armed with a massive iron sphere weapon.
