Gundam Tryon 3

Gundam Tryon 3 is a custom Gunpla featured in Gundam Build Fighters Try, created by Sakai Minato of Tendaiji Academy's Team Build Busters. Based on the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam and its concept derivative Gundam TryZeta, it incorporates bold super robot elements while retaining a combining architecture formed by three animal-type support craft called Tri-Machines. Constructed with the principles of the Gunpla Shingyou-ryu school, it is widely designated as Saikyou Kidou.

Overview

Gundam Tryon 3 is a custom Gunpla featured in Gundam Build Fighters Try, created by Sakai Minato of Tendaiji Academy's Team Build Busters. Based on the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam and its concept derivative Gundam TryZeta, it incorporates bold super robot elements while retaining a combining architecture formed by three animal-type support craft called Tri-Machines. Constructed with the principles of the Gunpla Shingyou-ryu school, it is widely designated as Saikyou Kidou.

Appearance

Based on the ZZ Gundam frame, the machine exhibits a heroic super robot styling highlighted by a prominent liger head—complete with eyes, whiskers, and fangs—mounted directly on the chest. Its head features a V-fin blade antenna, while wing shields functioning as flight stabilizers are attached to both arms, and claws are built into the lower legs. When assembled from its three animal components, the manta ray-like Umi Tryon forms the upper torso and arms, the eagle-like Sora Tryon forms the lower hips and legs, and the liger-like Riku Tryon forms the central chest and back.

Personality

While the machine possesses no artificial mind of its own, it intensely mirrors the fiery zeal and super robot aesthetics of its builder, Sakai Minato. Unbound by standard Gundam conventions, the Gunpla stands as an expression of pure creative freedom, embodying the collective desire and strong bond of Team Build Busters to continue competing together in Gunpla Battles.

Abilities

By combining its three independent units—Sora Tryon, Umi Tryon, and Riku Tryon—the machine concentrates the total output of three Gunpla into a single ultra-high-output framework. Surplus particles released during the combination process generate a protective emblem barrier that covers combat weaknesses. Individually, Sora Tryon utilizes Vehicle Shocker and Feather Storm, Umi Tryon uses Marine Blade and Ocean Whip, and Riku Tryon fires Whisker Vulcans and Twin Cannons. Combined, its arsenal includes the rocket-punch Armed Booster, the thrown Boomerang Stagger, a high-output head High Mega Cannon, back-mounted Double Cannonade beam cannons, the red-and-blue dual-color Liger Glare beam fired from the chest eyes, Heat Wings, and Raptor Breaker leg claws. Its ultimate attack is the Hyper Minovsky Tryzan, which paralyzes foes with Chouhou Pressure before slashing them in a G-shaped pattern using the giant beam sword Chouhouken Hyper Minovsky.

Background

Gundam Tryon 3 was created by Sakai Minato specifically to challenge Team Try Fighters and Kousaka Yuuma's Lightning Gundam. Utilizing Gunpla Shingyou-ryu techniques, Minato developed it under the hypothetical lore of a sequel to Gundam TryZeta, restoring the original ZZ Gundam's transforming and combining features. Representing the unified resolve of his teammates, including Kodera Masami who stepped into a substitute role, it delivered a memorable performance at the National Gunpla Battle Tournament. Components and variants of the machine later made cameo appearances in Gundam Build Divers and Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE.

Relationships

Sakai Minato serves as the primary builder and lead operator during combined mode. Teammate Isaka Hideo pilots Sora Tryon, while Satou Haruto pilots Umi Tryon, with both providing flight and operational support when combined. Kodera Masami voluntarily took a back-up spot on the team roster to enable the three-unit combination. The machine stands in contrast to the creations of Minato's senior schoolmate Yasaka Mao and earned praise from Meijin Kawaguchi for its unrestrained design. Minato views Kousaka Yuuma and his Lightning Gundam as primary rivals.

Trivia

The mechanical design was executed by Kunio Okawara, incorporating stylistic elements from classic super robot works such as the Muteki Robo series. Veteran animator Masami Obari drew the animated combination sequence and model kit box art, inspiring the title of the accompanying combination BGM. Ryoji Kansai contributed setting support. The HGBF 1/144 plastic model kit notably included a left weapon-holding hand component that was absent from the base HGUC ZZ Gundam kit. In 2024, marking its tenth anniversary, it became the very first Gundam franchise entry to be released in the Soul of Chogokin die-cast figure line (GX-113). A black color variant named Koukoku Kidou Gundam Dryon III also exists.
