Gundam X Divider
The GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider is a modified mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Gundam X. Rebuilt by the skilled Vulture mechanic Kid Salsamille after the original unit suffered severe battle damage, it trades its strategic Satellite Cannon for a multi-purpose defensive and offensive shield unit known as the Divider. By shifting focus from strategic destruction to tactical versatility and high mobility, the machine becomes a reliable combat unit. It is piloted initially by Garrod Ran and later handed over to veteran commander Jamil Neate, serving as a key unit throughout the Eighth Space War.
Overview
Appearance
The mobile suit stands 17.1 meters tall, weighs 7.7 metric tons, and is constructed with Luna Titanium Alloy armor. The backpack no longer features the Satellite Cannon and reflector unit; instead, two large energy pods on the lower hardpoints and two large beam swords on the upper vernier racks form an X-shaped profile. Its primary shield, the Divider, has adjustable rotating thrusters on both flanks and a center-folding mechanism. The unit carries a twin-barrel beam machine gun converted from a warship cannon and a heavy Hyper Bazooka, with its cockpit later converted to a standard Earth Federation design.
Personality
As a non-sentient weapon, the Gundam X Divider possesses no conscious character traits. However, its operational philosophy embodies the pragmatic self-defense mindset of the Vultures. Discarding volatile strategic destruction in favor of rapid battlefield versatility, durable defense, and flexible fire support, the machine perfectly matches Garrod Ran's flexible fighting style and Jamil Neate's experienced, steady command approach.
Abilities
The Divider shield serves as a heavy defensive arm and unfolds to expose the 19-barrel Harmonica Cannon, capable of full salvos, focused beam blade formation, shotgun beam dispersion, and high-power underwater execution. Its side thrusters provide auxiliary propulsion and enable high-speed hover mode when attached to the backpack. Energy pods extend operational duration independent of the Satellite System. The beam machine gun alternates between single high-output blasts and rapid fire, while the Hyper Bazooka fires live warheads or torpedoes. The suit also retains its Flash System to control up to 12 GX Bits.
Background
Created after Carris Nautilus's Bertigo destroyed the original Gundam X's Satellite Cannon, the suit was re-engineered by mechanic Kid Salsamille using select salvaged parts. Garrod Ran piloted the modified mobile suit in battle until transitioning to the Gundam Double X, whereupon the Divider's cockpit was reconfigured. Captain Jamil Neate then took over pilot duties after overcoming his past battle trauma. In a notable engagement, Jamil synchronized with Lucille Reliant via the Flash System to command GX Bits against New U.N.E. forces before destroying the automated bits to prevent future misuse.
Relationships
The unit was designed and crafted by mechanic Kid Salsamille. It was initially operated by Garrod Ran before being inherited by commander Jamil Neate. Enemy pilot Carris Nautilus indirectly caused the machine's creation by destroying its original weapon system. During a major battle, Jamil linked with the consciousness of Lucille Reliant to activate the Flash System and control its support bits.
Trivia
The colloquial name Harmonica Cannon originates from Space Revolutionary Army slang for vehicle-mounted multi-barrel beam weapons. Product releases often use abbreviations like GXDV. The 1/100 HG model kit included an original handheld stick grenade called the X Grenader, a weapon design later adopted for other mobile suits in the anime. In tactical video games like the Super Robot Wars series, the suit is frequently featured with the ability to switch between its Satellite Cannon form and Divider configuration.
