Overview

Hanayo is a character featured in the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 side-story series, including Mobile Suit Gundam 00P and Mobile Suit Gundam 00F. Originally created by the quantum computer Veda as a data-only Innovade without a physical body, she projects herself via holograms and monitor communications. Initially designated by the code name Gundam Meister 874, she later adopts the name Hanayo. Within the shadow organization Fereshte, she serves as the primary tactical partner and supervisor for the volatile Gundam Meister Fon Spaak, supporting covert armed interventions behind the scenes.

Appearance

Hanayo takes the visual form of a young girl in her early teens, though she lacks a physical body and exists solely as data, communicating through holograms and screen monitors. Her projected silhouette features distinct cat-ear-like protrusions on her head. As a physical interface, she operates through a specialized Haro terminal styled with feline characteristics. On one occasion, she briefly acquired a physical presence by temporarily inhabiting the body of another Innovade, Hayana.

Personality

Initially, Hanayo exhibited a cold and mechanical demeanor, prioritizing logic to the point of considering the elimination of prospective members before their joining Celestial Being. However, through her interactions with Chall Acustica, Ruido Resonance, and Marlene Vlady, she gradually developed human emotions, coming to feel genuine sadness over tragedy and loss. She demonstrates a delicate respect for life, notably refusing to accept a physical body created for her out of concern that doing so would extinguish the potential life of that body.

Abilities

As a data-based Innovade created by Veda, Hanayo retains full mobile suit piloting capabilities despite having no physical vessel. She has piloted units including the Gundam Sadalsuud and Gundam Artemie, as well as operating the Gundam Astraea, Gundam Plutone, and GN Sefer. Following a system update, she can project her holographic avatar anywhere a Haro is located via quantum communications. In combat scenarios, she manages technical support and oversight for Fon Spaak.

Background

Hanayo was created by Veda under the designation Gundam Meister 874 to evaluate whether humans or Innovades were more suited to serve as Meisters. After developing human emotions through shared experiences and loss, she declined her assigned physical body, which instead birthed the Innovade Hayana, prompting 874 to take the name Hanayo. During an internal conflict caused by Besaid Pain, she temporarily borrowed Hayana's body to pilot the Gundam Artemie, but was sealed inside a Haro following the battle. Later revived within Fereshte, she weathered the destruction of her terminal and eventually departed the organization alongside Fon Spaak to continue supporting him independently.

Relationships

Hanayo's bond with Chall Acustica, Ruido Resonance, and Marlene Vlady was pivotal in cultivating her emotions, fostering a deep devotion to supporting Chall. She maintains close friendships with Ian Vashti and Sherilyn Hyde, the latter of whom worked to restore her after her terminal was destroyed. Hayana, born from the body Hanayo refused, initially idolized her as an elder sister, but developed intense resentment after Hanayo briefly commandeered her physical frame. In Fereshte, she works alongside Fon Spaak as his dedicated tactical partner and monitor.

Trivia

The name Hanayo serves as a numerical wordplay on her original Meister designation code 874, created as a direct linguistic counterpart to the designation 887 given to Hayana.
