Overview

Hope is a fairy character featured in the chapter "Avalon le Fae" of Fate/Grand Order. Residing on the outskirts of Cornwall village in the British Lostbelt, she is an enfeebled fairy who has lost both her purpose and her true name. Upon encountering the stranded protagonist and their companions, she assists them during their stay. Though initially a minor background figure, her brief interaction with Artoria Caster ultimately plays a critical role in sustaining Artoria's resolve during the climax of the story.

Appearance

Hope is depicted as a young fairy girl with slightly muted light-blue short hair, yellow eyes, and pointed ears. She possesses butterfly-like insect wings on her back that are frayed and damaged in several spots. Her outfit consists of a white shoulder-baring dress, and her body bears numerous visible scars and injuries.

Personality

Hope has a gentle and kind-hearted nature, constantly showing concern for others despite her own low self-esteem and timid temperament. Enduring centuries of exploitation without receiving gratitude, she has a habit of sacrificing herself for those around her. Under extreme distress, her long-suppressed bitterness can burst outward. Nevertheless, she holds a deep appreciation for even the smallest gesture of genuine kindness, cherishing it above all else.

Abilities

Despite lacking a protective domain or shelter, Hope manages to survive outdoors with only minor injuries, leading others to deduce that she originally possessed considerable fairy power. Her intrinsic purpose as a fairy is to bestow hope upon those around her.

Background

Having forgotten her identity and purpose after centuries of abuse, Hope ended up in the village of Cornwall, where she was treated as disposable labor. She cared for and guided the protagonist's group upon their arrival, but the accumulated resentment eventually caused her to transform into a monstrous Mors before being put to rest. However, the momentary kindness shown to her by Artoria Caster—who shared her name with her—remained with Hope as a radiant memory. In the end, her lingering devotion protected Artoria from overwhelming malice, serving as the sole shining star that inspired the creation of the Guardian Artoria Avalon.

Relationships

Artoria Caster (who initially introduced herself as Mash) offered Hope a gesture of compassion by inviting her to use her name. This brief interaction left an indelible mark on Hope, inspiring her to shield Artoria from malice even after her own physical demise. Ritsuka Fujimaru and the Chaldea group were aided by Hope, who looked after them and guided them through Cornwall, ultimately helping them attempt their escape.

Trivia

Hope's character design was created by the illustrator Sumisu. In the dramatic reading event 'FGO THE DRAMALOGUE -Avalon le Fae-', she was voiced by Honoka Inoue, whose mother, Kikuko Inoue, voices Scheherazade in the main game. Narrative analysts note several thematic parallels between Hope and Baobhan Sith, as both characters endured extreme mistreatment yet found their emotional anchor in a compassionate encounter with a Fairy of Paradise.
