Overview
Huang Feihu is a Rider-class Servant in Fate/Grand Order, based on the legendary general from the Chinese epic Investiture of the Gods. Originally serving the Shang dynasty under King Zhou as the Grand Marshal Who Pacifies the Realm, he defected to the Zhou dynasty to become the Grand Marshal Who Founds the Realm after losing his wife and sister to the schemes of the evil concubine Daji. A deeply steadfast warrior who cherishes family bonds, he manifests connected to the spiritual strength of his entire clan.
Appearance
He is a muscular man with blue eyes, a notched eyebrow, and asymmetrical black hair featuring blonde streaks, a central fringe between his eyes, a single sidelock, and a hair ornament. His attire consists of Chinese-style clothing paired with a white cape, fingerless black gloves, black trousers, and decorative tassels. He carries a red birdcage and rides his mount, the Five-Colored Divine Cow. When his sons manifest, eldest son Huang Tianhua wears white attire with a hat, second son Huang Tianlu wears dark green light armor, third son Huang Tianjue wears a yellow hooded cloak, and youngest son Huang Tianxiang appears as a small child.
Personality
Huang Feihu is a thoroughly serious, honorable warrior who deeply values family bonds and clan solidarity. Humble in speech, he constantly grapples with the philosophical question of true loyalty due to his historical decision to abandon the dynasty his family served for generations. As a Servant, he obeys his Master faithfully while quietly evaluating their character to ensure they are a worthy leader, often interacting with the Master with paternal warmth and affection.
Abilities
In combat, he fights using divine spear techniques, charging atop his mount the Five-Colored Divine Cow while emitting seven-colored flashes, and unleashing the Gold-eyed Divine Oriole to strike enemies with steel claws. He can temporarily manifest his four sons to perform combined attacks utilizing sickles, swords, and spears. His primary Noble Phantasm, Huang Feihu Fan Wuguan - Tianhua Moye Baojian, borrows his eldest son's divine sword to unleash a beam of light that severs heads. He also possesses Huang Feihu Fan Wuguan - Tianhua Senyaku for advanced healing and Huang Feihu Fan Wuguan - Kashi Jogen, which grants limited precognition and evasion against hazards, especially fire-based traps.
Background
Born into a family that served the Shang dynasty for generations, Huang Feihu originally served King Zhou as the Grand Marshal Who Pacifies the Realm. However, after uncovering the true identity of the tyrant's evil concubine Daji, his wife Jia Shi and sister Huang Fei were driven to their deaths through her machinations. Enraged by this injustice, he led his entire clan to defect to Zhou, breaking through five heavily guarded passes along the way. Reaching the forces of King Wu and Taikoubou, he became the Grand Marshal Who Founds the Realm. Though killed in action during the campaign against Shang, his spirit was deified post-war by Taikoubou as the deity presiding over Mount Tai and the underworld.
Relationships
He holds an intense hatred for Daji, who engineered the deaths of his wife Jia Shi and sister Huang Fei, extending his hostility toward Servants associated with her like Tamamo no Mae and Koyanskaya. He maintains a warm camaraderie with Taikoubou, addressing each other fondly. His four sons—led by eldest son Huang Tianhua—are integral to his spirit origin and can temporarily manifest under specific conditions. He treats his Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka, with paternal care, and bonds over drinks with fellow father Servant William Tell. Having been slain in life by the husband-and-wife generals Zhang Kui and Gao Lanying, he is wary of opposing married couples in battle.
Trivia
In the original Chinese texts of the Investiture of the Gods, Huang Tianhua is explicitly designated as the eldest son, though certain influential Japanese translations depicted him as the second son. Additionally, whenever he encounters other Servants accompanied by cattle or oxen, he takes great delight in believing his beloved mount, the Five-Colored Divine Cow, has found new companions.
