Overview

Neneka Nibrou is a character from the anime series Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. She serves as an elite mobile suit pilot and the commander of the all-female Neneka Squad, an Imperial Guard unit dedicated to protecting Queen Maria Pure Armonia of the Zanscare Empire. During the final battles inside the Angel Halo fortress, she is best known for leading her squad in a surreal, unarmored infantry attack while wearing swimsuits under the orders of Katejina Loos.

Appearance

She is a woman with red medium-length hair with strands between her eyes, green eyes, red lips, and visible collarbones. She wears headphone-style soundproof wireless comms equipment on her head. Her outfit consists of a blue bikini held together by metallic rings, complemented by blue wristbands and blue boots. A handgun holster is fitted on her left side, while a spare bazooka magazine is attached to her right side. On her back, she carries a land-mover backpack equipped with small verniers, an oxygen tank, and an inflatable airbag system.

Personality

Neneka is a devout follower of Mariaism who takes great pride in her role as a defender of Queen Maria Pure Armonia. As a professional officer, she possesses common sense and initially protests when ordered to dismount her mobile suit and strip down. However, her deep religious devotion and susceptibility to persuasive arguments leave her easily manipulated, ultimately leading her to execute irrational orders despite her misgivings.

Abilities

As an elite commander, she is trained to pilot mobile suits such as the ZM-S22S Rig Shokew. She is also highly capable in zero-gravity infantry combat, skilled at executing pincer ambushes using uncrewed Einrads. Her arms include a large anti-personnel pistol and a compact four-shot anti-MS launcher. This launcher packs enough force to shatter the reactive assault armor of the V2 Gundam. Additionally, she employs hand grenades filled with sticky gel and relies on a land-mover backpack system with an airbag for short-duration extravehicular mobility in space.

Background

Assigned to defend the Angel Halo fortress, Neneka's squad failed to intercept the rapidly advancing V2 Gundam piloted by Uso Ewin. Reprimanded for this failure by Katejina Loos, Neneka and her squad were forced to abandon their mobile suits, change into revealing swimsuits, and launch an infantry assault intended to bewilder the young enemy pilot. Ambushing the V2 Gundam inside the structure, her unit succeeded in stripping away its assault armor. However, a traumatized Uso fought back physically with his mobile suit, ultimately vaporizing Neneka with his beam saber.

Relationships

She operated under the command of Katejina Loos, who exploited Neneka's loyalty and coerced her unit into a suicidal infantry strike. Her opponent was Uso Ewin, the pilot of the V2 Gundam; although her squad's unsettling appearance deeply disturbed him, he ultimately wiped out her squad in a panic. Behind her devotion was her absolute reverence for Queen Maria Pure Armonia, whose teachings guided her actions.

Trivia

The revealing attire worn by her unit was later retroactively designated as the Official Imperial Guard Combat Uniform, while director Yoshiyuki Tomino referred to the group as the Naked Neneka Squad. She holds the distinction of being the final named character directly killed in combat by protagonist Uso Ewin in the series. Her squad's surreal battle inside the Angel Halo has frequently been referenced, parodied, and featured across later Gundam media, manga, and video games.
