Overview

The AMX-104 R-Jarja is a prototype commander-use mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon, appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight AXIS. Built upon the close-quarters combat principles of the Principality of Zeon's Gyan, it integrates second-generation mobile suit technology including a movable frame. Combining a striking medieval knight design with exceptional maneuverability, the unit stands out as a specialized high-performance mecha created for decisive close-range engagement.

Appearance

The unit features a design inspired by medieval European knights, characterized by heavy armor and a head structure resembling a helm. The head includes a top receiver antenna and a cross-shaped mono-eye rail. Its most prominent color scheme is the blood-orange palette of Chara Soon's machine, though a variant painted in white with light and dark purple accents also exists. Visually distinct features include an ornate beam saber and flexible Variable Shields mounted on both shoulders.

Abilities

Inheriting the close-combat focus of the Gyan, the mecha is equipped with 18 attitude control thrusters throughout its frame, granting superior maneuverability and high responsiveness. Its sensor system combines a wide-range mono-eye rail with a top antenna. Armaments include a 0.72 MW beam saber and a 3.1 MW beam rifle equipped with a heat bayonet strong enough to slice through shields. The shoulder-mounted Variable Shields provide multi-directional defense, function as mobility thrusters, mount the beam rifle, and house built-in 3-tube missile pods containing twelve AMS-05M medium missiles.

Background

Originally conceived for mass production as a next-generation unit, the R-Jarja was dropped from main-line evaluation and re-engineered as a high-spec machine for senior officers. Its most prominent operational deployment was under Chara Soon, commander of the Endra, before being lost during combat at the Moon Moon colony. A small number of units were operated by personnel such as Captain Veal and Neo Zeon remnants in Africa, while a surviving frame at Axis was later piloted by Danton Hyleg.

Relationships

The unit was notably piloted by Chara Soon, while Danton Hyleg and Captain Veal operated other individual machines. It directly inherits its core design concept from the Principality of Zeon's Gyan, and its beam rifle was temporarily adopted by the Zaku III due to production delays. The machine later served as the basis for the upgraded AMX-104L Altus Jarja, as well as the customized Gunpla R-Gyagya built by Kaoruko Sazaki in Gundam Build Fighters Try.

Trivia

During the original broadcast of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, a 1/144 scale plastic model kit was released. In 2019, the machine received a modern High Grade Universal Century (HGUC) model kit release, which utilized base molds from the 2014 R-Gyagya kit alongside brand-new moldings for its signature beam rifle. A variant depicting the white-and-purple Twilight AXIS color scheme was also produced as a Premium Bandai exclusive.
