Appearance
He appears as an armored warrior clad in white armor, concealing his face behind a red face guard (mempo) and helmet. Removing his mask serves as a personal ritual to switch between combat duties and private life; unmasked, he reveals a clear-cut face with sharp eyes and black hair. On the battlefield, he carries a massive odachi engraved with a sun emblem and rides a gray-coated horse.
Personality
In battle, he fights with fierce intensity under the banner of eradicating evil entities. In contrast, his true nature is that of a polite, honest, and gentle warrior. While ruthless toward threats, he possesses a rational side influenced by his bond with his wife Tomoe Gozen, believing that even supernatural beings should not be harmed if they seek peace. He fights using a heavy blade enveloped in light and intense flames, possessing skills such as Magic Resistance, Riding, and an exceptionally high rank of Independent Action that permits independent operation without a Master. His Noble Phantasm, Yuuoumaishin Kurikaratouge, acts as a Reality Marble that summons a stampede of cattle bearing flaming torches to crush enemy forces. His second Noble Phantasm, Asahi Shogun, delivers a powerful solar slash combined with a sacred chant.
Background
Raised in the Kiso Valley after his father's death, Yoshinaka rose to power and defeated the Taira clan in crucial battles like Kurikara Pass, successfully driving them from the capital. However, political friction led to conflict with his cousin Minamoto no Yoritomo, ultimately resulting in his defeat at the hands of Noriyori and Yoshitsune. In the Waxing Moon Ritual, he is summoned to Todoroki as a Rogue Servant, hunting down demonic forces to preserve order.
Relationships
Tomoe Gozen is his beloved wife and foster sister, whose nature taught him that non-humans can possess goodness. His lineage ties him to figures like Minamoto no Yoshikata, Minamoto no Yukiie, and Minamoto no Yoshitomo, while his son Yoshitaka was betrothed to Yoritomo's daughter. He was historically opposed by Minamoto no Yoritomo, Noriyori, Yoshitsune, and Emperor Go-Shirakawa. In the ritual, he directly confronts the Rider faction as an antagonistic evil entity.

In real-world history, the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho held immense respect for Yoshinaka, requesting in his final wishes to be buried right beside Yoshinaka's grave at Gichu-ji temple.
