Shamblo
The AMA-X7 Shamblo is a colossal amphibious mobile armor featured in Mobile Suit Gundam UC. Developed over six years by Earth-based Zeon remnants using blueprints inherited from the First Neo Zeon War, it was completed with technological support from the Sleeves. Engineered with dual-mode operational capabilities for underwater cruising and terrestrial hover movement, it combines extreme stealth with formidable firepower. Although originally designed to require a multi-person crew for complex system management, the incorporation of a Psycho-Frame enabled full single-pilot operation by a Newtype, turning the machine into a terrifying asset against Earth Federation forces.
Overview
Appearance
The Shamblo is a massive mobile armor measuring 31.8 meters tall in land combat mode and 77.8 meters long in underwater cruise mode. It features a single purple eye, a wide particle cannon opening within its head's mouth, and long flexible arms ending in massive super-hard alloy claws. Its shoulder armor houses propulsion intake slits, while the back contains vertical launch system cells for remote weapons. Its overall shape evokes classic Zeon aquatic and heavy mobile armors like the Grabro and Bigro.
Abilities
Combining magnetohydrodynamic propulsion with a Minovsky Craft system, the unit achieves remarkable stealth and underwater speed by forming an I-field layer to minimize fluid resistance. Its armament includes a high-output mega particle cannon in the head mouth, dual shoulder diffusion beam cannons, and super-hard alloy Iron Nails for melee destruction. It deploys ten atmospheric Reflector Bits from rear VLS cells to deflect and redirect its beam attacks across wide areas. Driven by a Psycho-Frame, it allows a single Newtype to generate a Psycho-Field comparable to the Unicorn Gundam's Destroy Mode.
Background
Built over six years by Zeon remnants using designs originally conceived by Haman Karn's Neo Zeon forces, the Shamblo was finalized when the Sleeves provided Psycho-Frame technology. This solved its complex information processing demands, allowing single-pilot control by Loni Garvey. Fielded in an assault on Dakar, it demolished the Earth Federation Assembly before moving to strike near Torrington Base. As its pilot's trauma and fury were amplified by the Psycho-Frame, the machine engaged in a devastating rampage. Although Banagher Links attempted to quell the violence without fatal force, the tragedy escalated until Riddhe Marcenas pierced its cockpit with a Beam Magnum, deactivating the machine.
Relationships
The machine is primarily assigned to the Newtype pilot Loni Garvey, though in alternative media adaptations it is crewed together with her father Mahdi Garvey and her relatives. Its construction and deployment were heavily backed by Yonem Kirks and Full Frontal of the Sleeves. During its rampage, it faces Banagher Links in the Unicorn Gundam, who attempts to reach Loni's heart to end the killing, and Riddhe Marcenas in the Delta Plus, who ultimately delivers the fatal strike to shut down the Mobile Armor.
Trivia
The name Shamblo stems from the English term shambles as well as the monstrous entity Shambleau from C. L. Moore's science-fiction literature. Its in-universe sobriquet, Sea Ghost, serves as a self-parodic reference to the featured submarine in author Harutoshi Fukui's other work, Lorelei: The Witch of the Pacific. Additionally, the unit was created independently by mecha designer Hajime Katoki without a prior order in the original story outline; its striking visual presence convinced the production team to rewrite the ground campaign arc specifically around its battle.
