Star Winning Gundam

The SD-237S Star Winning Gundam is a custom Gunpla constructed and piloted by Hoshino Fumina in the anime series Gundam Build Fighters Try. Created as the upgraded successor to her previous Winning Gundam, the machine was developed specifically for competition in the All-Japan Gunpla Battle Championship national tournament. Breaking away from traditional SD limits, it incorporates a full transformation system that transitions from a super-deformed form to a high-proportion Real Mode. This allows the Gunpla to deliver powerful individual combat performance while continuing to provide versatile tactical support to her teammates.

Overview

Appearance

The Star Winning Gundam features a sleeker silhouette compared to its predecessor. Equipped with a large backpack unit that emits glowing star-shaped energy effects, it operates as remote funnels. The machine possesses a unique structure capable of shifting between SD Mode, high-proportioned Real Mode, and Core Booster Mode. In Real Mode, the Gunbits dock to form its legs while the Guard Bits form its arms, and Star Cross units are mounted on its side skirts. The forehead features a prominent blade antenna used for energy concentration during maximum-output attacks.

Personality

While the Gunpla lacks a sentient personality of its own, its design fully embodies the spirit and values of its builder, Hoshino Fumina. It reflects her profound affection for SD Gundam aesthetics combined with her strong resolve to fight on the front lines alongside her friends rather than remaining strictly in a back-line support role. The unit's adaptable nature mirrors her vibrant energy, strategic awareness, and deep dedication to teamwork.

Abilities

The machine can convert between SD Mode, Real Mode, and Core Booster (or Mega Core Booster) modes. In Real Mode, it connects its funnel generators directly to the chassis, dramatically amplifying mobility and firepower at the cost of continuous power drain. Its primary armament is a Beam Machine Gun convertible into a Mega Blade. The remote Gunbits form its legs in Real Mode and fire hyper beam cannons, while the Guard Bits become arms capable of deploying high-output defensive barriers. The thrown Star Cross shields cut beams and restrain targets. By linking all generators to the brow antenna, it unleashes the massive Winning Beam, and it can project Plavsky Power Gates to accelerate and boost team attacks.

Background

The machine was created when Hoshino Fumina re-evaluated her battle style leading up to the All-Japan Gunpla Battle Championship national tournament. Realizing that her previous Winning Gundam was overly specialized in supporting allies by transforming into extra weapons, she took advice from Lady Kawaguchi to heart. Fumina sought to build a Gunpla that allowed her to fight actively on the front lines while maintaining team synergy. The resulting Star Winning Gundam became the primary unit of Team Try Fighters, serving in high-stakes matches throughout the championship and subsequent conflicts.

Relationships

The Gunpla is built and piloted by Hoshino Fumina, leader of Team Try Fighters. Lady Kawaguchi served as the catalyst for its creation by offering key advice regarding Fumina's combat role. On the battlefield, it maintains synergy with Sekai Kamiki's Try Burning Gundam and Yuuma Kousaka's Lightning Gundam Full Vernian, amplifying their special attacks using its Plavsky Power Gate. It stands as the direct structural evolution of Fumina's initial machine, the Winning Gundam.

Trivia

In real-world merchandise, it was released in the SDBF model kit line using an entirely new mold with zero shared parts from the original Winning Gundam. Its transformation from SD to realistic proportions pays homage to classic SD Gundam designs such as Kido Musha Daikong and Tekki Musha Hagane-maru. The unit appears in digital media including Gundam Tri-Age and the Gundam VS. video game franchise, where it earned distinction as the very first playable SD-proportioned mobile suit added to the lineup.
