Overview
Tepeu is a key character featured in the South American Lostbelt chapter, Nahui Mictlan, of Fate/Grand Order. Rather than being human, he belongs to the Deinos, a species of highly evolved dinosaur-like beings. Unlike most of his kin who lack intense intellectual drive, he possesses exceptional intelligence and insatiable curiosity, earning him the title of the Star Reader. Despite knowing that Chaldea's ultimate goal will lead to the erasure of his world, he warmly welcomes them as friends and acts as their guide through the subterranean realm.
Appearance
Tepeu has the literal physical form of a raptor-like dinosaur, visually reminiscent of deinonychosaurians such as Deinonychus or Troodon, though his talons appear on his first digits rather than the typical second digits. He wears a pair of round spectacles that suit his intellectual nature, along with a saddle-like cloth over his body. His design also incorporates distinctive features such as horns, along with light-colored, orange, and white tufts or plumage.
Personality
Tepeu is exceptionally calm, mild-mannered, and intensely rational. Unlike typical Deinos who are fully content with their existence, his strong curiosity compels him to seek answers whenever faced with the unknown. He is a relaxed pacifist who prefers to avoid conflict, yet he maintains an open-minded perspective, analyzing both the achievements and flaws of Proper Human History without prejudice. Driven by a deep sense of logic, he views the end of worlds as an inevitability, occasionally making pragmatic choices that bewilder his companions.
Abilities
Tepeu possesses a natural camouflage ability similar to a chameleon, allowing him to blend seamlessly into his surroundings. Although he lacks combat experience and cannot swim, his baseline physical traits as a Deinos grant him defensive qualities and biological capabilities comparable to a Servant. His defining strength is an extraordinary intellect; he can effortlessly grasp complex concepts of Proper Human History upon hearing them once, quickly master intricate magecraft after minimal instruction, and even wield a subtle Mystic Eye.
Background
In the past, Tepeu served as a high priest following the Sun's teachings and worked at an observatory in the seventh layer, where he witnessed the manifestation of Kukulkan. However, after coming to feel acutely helpless, he abandoned his prestigious station and withdrew to a cave in the first layer. There, he lived a solitary life conducting personal research as a Star Reader. After rescuing Mash Kyrielight, he joined Chaldea's expedition, ultimately deciding to stand and fight alongside his friends until the very end.
Relationships
Tepeu warmly embraces the Chaldea Master and Mash Kyrielight as cherished friends, aiding them despite knowing the fate of his own world. He holds a deep connection with Ishkick, caring deeply about her situation and destiny. In the past, he acted as a master-like figure to the Eleven Deinonychus Brothers. He also understands the true nature of Kukulkan, offering her insightful words of encouragement during critical moments.
Trivia
Tepeu was designed by character artist Chuuou Higashiguchi. In the native sport of Sacca, he excels far more as a brilliant strategist and manager than a player, once guiding a minor team to victory. He also possesses surprising artistic skills, once drawing an accurate illustration of a dog based entirely on a verbal description of the animal.
