Zanneck
The ZMT-S29S Zanneck is a strategic heavy-attack prototype mobile suit developed by the Zanscare Empire's Super Psycho Research Institute in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Standing at 19.4 meters tall—larger than standard mobile suits of its era—it is equipped with a psycommu system and engineered for long-range precision strikes. Operating alongside a dedicated sub-flight unit, this high-output machine inflicted massive casualties on the League Militaire and Earth Federation forces before its eventual destruction.
Overview
The ZMT-S29S Zanneck is a strategic heavy-attack prototype mobile suit developed by the Zanscare Empire's Super Psycho Research Institute in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. Standing at 19.4 meters tall—larger than standard mobile suits of its era—it is equipped with a psycommu system and engineered for long-range precision strikes. Operating alongside a dedicated sub-flight unit, this high-output machine inflicted massive casualties on the League Militaire and Earth Federation forces before its eventual destruction.
Appearance
The Zanneck stands 19.4 meters tall and is characterized by large, crescent-shaped open particle accelerators mounted on both shoulders, which project glowing light rings when fully active. It features sharp, crescent-inspired designs on its toes and heels. The mobile suit carries an extraordinarily long beam cannon measuring over 20 meters and is typically deployed positioned atop a large saucer-shaped sub-flight unit. Its eye sensors are depicted in shades of yellow, orange, and red.
Abilities
The Zanneck's primary weapon, the Zanneck Cannon, utilizes shoulder-mounted particle accelerators to fire extremely high-output, red mega-particle beams capable of penetrating warship-grade beam shields across extreme distances. The accelerators can double as a protective barrier against incoming energy attacks, while the cannon barrel itself can serve as a physical striking weapon. Additional armaments include twin shoulder beam guns, chest missile launchers, an enlarged beam saber, and a beam shield. Its sub-flight unit, the Zanneck Base, provides atmospheric entry and exit capabilities, high mobility, and an underside beam shield. The machine's key system is a specialized psycommu sensor that amplifies the pilot's brainwaves to locate hostility from extreme distances, allowing precise strikes from stratospheric heights.
Background
Developed by the Super Psycho Research Institute using technology derived from the Zanscare Empire's space fortress Keilas Guilie, the Zanneck functioned effectively as a miniaturized strategic bombardment unit. Assigned to Fuala Griffon following her return from exile, the suit terrorized opposing forces by executing devastating sniper attacks from high altitude and orbital spaces. During a intense encounter against the combined forces of the League Militaire and Earth Federation, it was ultimately destroyed when defeated by Uso Ewin's V2 Gundam using a mass Boots launch assault.
Relationships
Fuala Griffon serves as the designated pilot tuned to the machine's specialized psycommu system. Her brainwave emissions, focused through a bell-shaped psycommu tool, manifest as an eerie ringing sound in the minds of receptive enemy pilots like Uso Ewin, signaling incoming lock-ons. During the conflict, Oliver Inoe discovers a countermeasure to its detection capabilities by carrying the infant Karlmann in his cockpit, maintaining a peaceful mindset void of hostility to remain invisible to the Zanneck's active sensors.
Trivia
According to mechanical designer Junya Ishigaki, early design concepts were inspired by the thunder god Raijin under the tentative name 'Zancock,' featuring a head-mounted cockpit and claw units. The design eventually shifted to incorporate crescent moon motifs, resulting in the final Zanneck silhouette. A memorable thematic aspect of the mecha is the phantom sound of a guillotine's bell perceived by enemy pilots whenever its psycommu sensory wave targets them.
