Overview

Zhang Jue is a Caster-class Servant who appears in the mobile game Fate/Grand Order. Based on the historical founder of the Taiping Taoist movement and leader of the Yellow Turban Rebellion alongside his younger brothers Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang, he makes his first main story appearance in Chapter 6.5 of Part 2, Traum. Within this chapter, he acts as the practical second-in-command and military strategist for Kriemhild's Revenge Realm, presenting a formidable obstacle to Chaldea.

Appearance

He is an elderly man with long white hair arranged in braids, a receding hairline, deep facial wrinkles, and a full white beard. His eyes are depicted as yellow or blue, and he wears round spectacles. He is dressed in traditional yellow-themed Chinese garments, coats, a usekh collar, and gold necklaces and jewelry, while also possessing modern attire consisting of a suit, striped shirt, and jacket. Underneath, he exhibits a toned, muscular build.

Personality

Referring to himself as an old man, he initially presents a charming and humorous demeanor complete with exaggerated facial expressions, but he is a cold and pragmatic strategist beneath the surface. While genuinely driven by the ultimate goal of world peace and human happiness, he holds no qualms about using underhanded tricks, force, or assassinations to achieve it. He also harbors a soft spot for childlike romantic ideals such as self-destruct mechanisms and secretly cares about how others perceive his ambitions.

Abilities

Through his mastery of Daoist magic and talismans, he manipulates weather phenomena, unleashing hail, sandstorms, lightning, and fire. By employing his magical yellow cloth, he can control both living and non-living entities, and he summons signature puppet soldiers armed with torches and agricultural tools to attack. He is also adept at brewing talismanic water to heal ailments and altering field environments to grant varied battle advantages. His Anti-Army Noble Phantasm, Sōten Isshi, Kōten Masani Tatsubeshi, combines violent weather strikes with puppet control.

Background

In life, he learned Daoist arts from Nanhua Laoxian, who gifted him the Taiping Jing on the condition that it not be misused. Healing the sick with talismanic remedies, he attracted followers and formed the Taiping sect, launching the Yellow Turban Rebellion against the corrupt Han dynasty before succumbing to illness. In the Traum Singularity, he was the first Servant summoned by the mastermind and sustained the singularity by anchoring his true body as a corpse-like figure in Area 51, operating within the realm via memory-wiped clones.

Relationships

He shared a bond of deep trust with his brothers Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang during the rebellion. With his Master, Fujimaru Ritsuka, he maintains a friendly rapport while constantly trying to slip a yellow cloth onto them for safe measure. While Kriemhild employed him as her chief strategist due to his formidable competence, she retained a healthy suspicion of his true motives. He respects his mentor Nanhua Laoxian, though he firmly maintains that his historical choices were entirely justified.

Trivia

The reading for his Noble Phantasm name relies on historical texts such as the Book of the Later Han rather than popular modern literary adaptations. His artist, Takeshi Kawaguchi, is well known for illustrating the manga adaptation Fate/Grand Order -turas réalta-, with this character marking his first original Servant design for the game.
