Overview

The AMX-102 Zssa is a mass-produced fire-support mobile suit fielded by Neo Zeon, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Mobile Suit Gundam UC. Developed by Axis to operate alongside close-quarters units like the Galluss-J, the compact machine carries an extensive array of missiles across its frame. When equipped with its dedicated heavy booster, it serves as a high-output mid-range artillery platform capable of overwhelming surface suppression.

Appearance

The Zssa is a compact, mono-eyed mobile suit standing 15.0 meters tall at the head. Its body incorporates small missile pods into the chest, arms, thighs, and lower legs. It can mount a massive Zssa Booster on its back, raising its overall height to 25.11 meters, with large missile pods attached to drum frames on the booster's sides or directly onto the shoulders when unequipped. Units operated by The Sleeves feature a moss-green paint scheme adorned with sleeve-like ornamental engravings, and carry handheld weapons such as a shield, shotgun, or a beam machine gun from the Geara Doga.

Abilities

The unit is armed with two neck-mounted vulcan cannons and a 7.64 MW diffused beam cannon in its abdomen. Its main body integrates 44 total AMS-02S small missiles across its chest, arms, thighs, and lower legs, supplemented by 22 AMS-02H large missiles housed in four pods on the Zssa Booster. The massive thrust enables hit-and-run assaults, bombardment, and base defense. Two beam sabers stored in the legs allow emergency close combat after shedding the booster. The booster contains a separate cockpit for independent space craft operation, though detached components cannot be re-attached mid-battle.

Background

Developed at Axis, the Zssa inherited the combat concept of the former Principality of Zeon's prototype Gasshia. Prior to the First Neo Zeon War, the unit underwent field testing under Mashymre Cello of the Endra fleet. Following favorable test results, it was produced in substantial numbers, participating in the defense of Axis and the pacification of Dakar. Decades later, surviving units remained active within The Sleeves remnant forces during the Laplace Incident.

Relationships

Mashymre Cello conducted the initial field evaluation of the prototype unit within the Endra fleet, while Pesche Montagne and Arvenica Keest are also recorded as pilots. Direct tactical and technical relationships exist with the Galluss-J, designed as its close-combat companion, and the prototype Gasshia, which inspired its fire-support design concept.

Trivia

Variants include the melee-oriented Zssa Custom, the redesigned Zssa Dain, the underwater Zssa Booster Marine Type modified by Zionmars, and the Zssan fielded by the Ghingnham Fleet in Turn A Gundam. Plastic model kits include the original 1/144 scale release, followed by HGUC releases for both The Sleeves configuration and a Premium Bandai exclusive ZZ version.
